about
This is the first song I ever wrote. It came to me in summer 2008 after asking Jesus for inspiration.
The lyrics flowed freely, and upon first reading, the melody revealed itself. I did not write this song, I received it, from God. I hadn't even lived the lyrics yet. It would be almost 10 years before I would finally record it in January 2016. It would take 3 more years to finally understand it. Praise God. Thank you, Jesus Christ, John Clayton Mayer, for this song and this day. Hallelujah.
Of all the art I've ever created, this song is my favorite. Special thanks to the multi-talented Ross Harrell and his Peachtree Road Studios.
Special thanks to Nintendo and Ross's custom SNES guitar.
lyrics
It seems after all of these years
I ended up where I began
So much time spent running to find
I'm already who I am
And now I see the best thing for me
Is just to wait
See what happens
And in a few years' time
I'll realize
It's all been just as good
So why not today
Be exactly as I am
Show you my face
And tell you where I stand
But it's not a race
It takes time to decide
And to do what's right
For now I'll just daydream
And hope that it all starts tonight
It seems after all of that time
I ended up broke and alone
All those days spent wasting my life
In somebody else's home
But now I know the one thing to do
Is just to let it go
And find out today
Just exactly who I am
Show you my face
And tell you where I stand
But it's not a race
It takes time to decide
And to do what's right
For now I'll just daydream
And hope that it all starts tonight
Do you hear the calling?
Do you listen when it pierces your heart?
Do you heed the warning?
Will you give in and let your life start?
Will you be ready to stand up and face
The dark times with grace
And be ready to fight?
So why not today
Be exactly who I am
Tell you my story
And take you by the hand
It's not a race
It takes time to decide
And to do what's right
For now I'll just daydream
And hope that it all starts tonight
For now I'll just daydream
And hope that it all starts tonight (x3)
